Pepito, our mother's first dog, was a magnificent looking long haired chihuahua. He was raised in New York City, wore adorable coats and boots - he was a real head-turner. In the summertime, our mother had a bicycle basket for him for their weekend rides around Southampton. He was adored, but he did have one flaw. He was nasty. He would hide under furniture and come zooming out to attack ankles. He would look you right in the eye as he lifted his leg to relieve himself on the drapes. He liked to be petted until he didn't. He liked to be picked up and cuddled and then would change his mind and nip you. We accepted that he couldn't be what we wanted all the time, he was Pepito. In the photo above Pepito made a desperate attempt to attend our mother's wedding by jumping into the limo. A beautiful photo...but seconds later, Pepito bit Bob, our mother's step-father, on the finger as he was gently removing him from her lap. Wedding photos later confirm the incident: Bob is wearing a band-aid as he gives the bride away!
