Our grandmother, Jeanette, was a woman of immense talent and even greater presence. In her New York City co-op, a grand piano didn’t just sit in the room—it dominated it. Janet’s painting, 'Happy Birthday and All That Jazz,' is an incredibly accurate window into that world: the fringe of the oriental rug, the seasonal Ficus tree, and always, an enormous, fresh bouquet of flowers resting on the piano. We especially loved visiting in the spring, when the vase was overflowing with large apple blossoms or pussy willows.

But Jeanette’s elegance wasn't just in her décor; it was in her mind. She was a dedicated collector of thoughts, constantly recording her favorite quotes and worldly insights in her own notebooks. She believed in being prepared, ensuring an appropriate toast or a clever comment was always fresh in mind to wow her guests during an evening of entertaining.
