There are times when you just need to get away—to find a peaceful place that offers a spectacular new perspective with very little effort. For me, that place is atop the Quarry on Swan’s Island.

In the summer, I might hear the distant splashes of swimmers enjoying the cool water below, accompanied by the low hum of a lobster boat returning to the harbor. I might see another car in the lot but never encounter its occupants, or perhaps I’ll meet a traveler from far away asking where to find the best lobster.

But most of the time, it is just Sweetie Pie, my delightful Coton de Tulear, and me. We love to sit on the granite rocks, soaking in the sun’s warmth as we gaze out over the ocean toward the village of Minturn and Hockamock Head Lighthouse. In those moments, we simply wonder at the beauty of it all.
