About the Artwork
Birdie Talk
Our mother, Janet, was a devoted host to the neighborhood birds. Finches, chickadees, cardinals, and more knew her yard was the place to be for a reliable snack or a refreshing dip in the birdbath. She found immense joy in her feathered visitors, hanging suet from the apple tree boughs in the winter and fastidiously maintaining her hummingbird feeders all summer long.
Occasionally, she would wake up to find that a bear had wandered through, leaving her heavy wrought iron feeder pole bent at an impossible angle. Undeterred, Janet would simply straighten the pole out the best she could and carry on with the feeding. For her, the birds always came first.
We’ve shared this Birdie Talk card to celebrate that spirit of steady, joyful care. It’s a tribute to the simple, daily connections that make a backyard feel like home.
